Functional programming requires a abundant altered mindset than accepted "procedural" languages such as C, Perl, Python, and others. I am not planning to do either. The original vector is left untouched. Rather, new values are created and the variables 'b' and 'c' are referred to those new values. However, I thought this was an imperative approach to coding? Use of immutables entails this rather functional approach to programming. Maybe I've not learned enough about functional programming, but it doesn't seem functional to me. This book does an accomplished job of teaching the clairvoyant about these concepts. If object-oriented and procedural languages offer a more linguistic approach to programming, functional programming suggests a more mathematical approach. They tend to focus either on whether Ruby is a functional language or how to do functional programming in Ruby. Clojure is an absolutely interesting programming language which differs from object-oriented programming languages.
